Some people like to say mean things about Fritz. We're not really
sure why. But we're sure that deep down she is really a decent little
cat who is just trying to get by in a cold cruel world. Just like the
rest of us.
To help us remember these aspects or our adorable little kitty, we
often have to think back to when she first came into our lives.
We found the little darling at the Humane Society in Raleigh, North
Carolina. After passing up all of the good cats we came across
poor little Fritzie and just knew that it was up to us to make room
for her.
If Fritz were a 3D rendering we think that she would look something
like this,
Of course, the nice people at the shelter had to make sure that we would be able to handle the demands of an adult cat, and they tried to tell us horror stories about "this particular cat." We knew that these were just scare tactics designed to ferret out those who might not be fully committed to their newest family member, but we were determined to persevere. In fact, we have had to remind ourselves of that determination many times.
Every once in a while, though, Fritz can be a nice little cat, but she
can be a bit on the moody side too. Mostly we try to deal with her
with patience and a strong desire not to shed any blood. Usually that
is enough, but sometimes we try to let her know how we feel.
She can get very defensive, though.
Fritz has at least one faithful friend, Socksrates the sock monkey.
For a long time they were inseparable, and they could also be found
together a lot. It was always reassuring that we could count on
her attention being drawn away from the furniture and drapery at some
point in the day.
Like all good friends they get together as often as possible. It
has been tough, though, since Socksrates got a job at the local university in
the fillasofi department.
Of course the new position keeps Socksrates busy and has put a
strain on the relationship, but when Socksrates can find the
time to visit, Fritz is always waiting outside the door for her
friend.
Lately, though, Socksrates has been meeting new friends and
rubbing poor little Fritz's nose in it. Socksrates's new
friends are also in the fillasofi department and think that
they are something special. Fritz seems to think that they
feel superior just because they have read a few books with some
big words in them. If nothing else, Socksrates's new friends
know all the right things to say and usually get them in the
right order, which seems to be the important thing.
